SUMMER SCHOOL IN GEOMETRIC INTEGRATION

AUGUST 19-23, 2002, Fevik (Arendal), Norway

As a first event of the Special Year on Geometric Integration in Oslo, 2002-2003, a summer school has been organized. The summer school commemorated the 200 anniversary of the birth of Niels Henrik Abel and took place in the south of Norway. Abel was actually born on August 5, 1802 and he spent the last days of his short life in Frolands Verk (twenty minutes driving form Fevik). PhD students, postdocs but also well established researchers in applied mathematics and numerical analysis partecipated to this school. This summer school is one of the activities for the celebration of Niels Henrik Abel Bicentennial, during the year 2002.
